Japan is an island country located in the Pacific Ocean in East Asia. At over 377,873 square kilometers, Japan is the 62nd largest country in the world. Japan consists of over 3,000 islands, the largest of which Honshu (the main island), Kyushu, Hokkaido and Shikoku. Japan has 47 prefectures divided into eight regions. Money Japan's currency, the yen, is available in 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 & 500 coins, as well as 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10,000 yen bills (although the 2000 yen bill is not commonly used). Most major currencies can be exchanged at airports, banks, hotels and post offices in Japan. Electricity The electricity supply in Japan is 100V AC 50Hz, with a two-pronged plug / socket arrangement.
Telephones Due to rising popularity of cellular phones, public phones are becoming less available in Japan. There are some public phones that make international calls, however such phones can be difficult to find. The country dialling code for Japan is +81.
