Hiroshima is known throughout the world as being the first city in history to experience nuclear warfare with the atomic bombing of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.  The dropping of the atomic bomb resulted in the loss of an estimated 200.000 people, and the destruction of the city.  Following the attack, Hiroshima was rebuilt and proclaimed a City of Peace.  The city has numerous memorials and sights dedicated to advocating the abolition of all nuclear weapons in the world.  Hiroshima’s Peace Park and the nearby island of Miyajima are considered to be among Japan’s most interesting tourist attractions.  Hiroshima celebrates many festivals.  japan
